Specsavers Series 13 - 100m Back & 100m Free |

Island Games swimmers Courtney Butcher and Miles Munro each set a new Championship record in the 100m freestyle event of the Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club. Courtney knocked nearly 2 seconds off the time that she set this time last year, posting 57.75 – a new lifetime best and fastest time of the day from the girls. Miles also broke his record, with a time of 52.30 again the fastest time of the day from the men. The youngest age group (9 years) saw Ailish Rabey and John Welbourne take the honours in 1.32.10 and 1.35.90 respectively, while the 10 year olds saw Elliott Lock improve on his personal best by nearly 6 seconds to touch in a great time of 1.21.43. The 10 year old girl’s title went to Tatiana Tostevin in a brilliant 1.19.70. Sophie Wilcox and Tom Stapley continue to improve in leaps and bounds, winning the 11 year old age group with personal bests of 1.13.25 and 1.13.66 respectively. |

Specsavers Series 13 - 200m Freestyle |

Courtney Butcher continued her record breaking form this week recording the fastest time of the day in the 200m freestyle event of the Beau Sejour Barracudas Specsavers Series. Smashing her own record in the 14/15 age group by over 5 seconds she produced a brilliant new record time of 2.04.86. Fastest of the day from the boys came from Miles Munro who took the race out hard from the start and held on to a clear lead to finish in 1.55.60 In the youngest age group 9 year old Pippa Gallagher looked very strong as she took first place honours in a super time of 3.20.32, with Jake William winning the boys age group in 3.25.23. Jake, just managing to hold on to the gold medal position from John Welbourne who touched in 3.25.97 |

The first events of the 2013 Specsavers Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club got underway this week with some exciting swimming and 2 Championship records being set. The first record of the 2013 Series and fastest time of the day overall in the freestyle went to Miles Munro in 23.64 breaking his own record in the 16 and over age group which previously stood at 24.28. The fastest time of the day from the girls came from Courtney Butcher in a brilliant swim in the 14/15 age group, as she broke the 50m freestyle record to set a new mark of 27.22. Also finishing inside the record was Annalise Munro in a great time of 28.28. Annalise then went on to record the fastest time of the day in the breaststroke, just taking the touch from Courtney, in a time of 37.02, with brother Miles the fastest again for the boys in breaststroke in 33.79. |

Specsavers Series 13 - 25/50m Butterfly & 50m Backstoke |

One of the oldest records of the Beau Sejour Barracudas’ Specsavers Series was broken this week by 11 year old Tom Stapley. Competing in the 50m backstroke, Tom produced a superb swim touching in 36.12 to take the record previously set by Tom Hollingsworth back in 1999. Stapley also placed first in the 50m butterfly event in another lifetime best of 38.62. The fastest times of the day overall, came from Courtney Butcher in the backstroke in 31.32 and the butterfly in 30.67 both in new championship record times. The backstroke record went back to the year 2000 and was previously held by star swimmer Gail Strobridge. Fastest times from the men came from Oliver Nightingale in the backstroke in 28.84 and Miles Munro in the butterfly in 28.23. With a strong start, an attacking swim from Nightingale meant he was never really threatened and finished comfortably. A really strong performance from Rory Chamberlain in the butterfly on the other hand meant that Munro only just got the touch in 28.23. |

Click Here to download Full Results A team of 36 members of the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club travelled to Jersey this weekend to take part in a new fixture in the 2013 calendar. An Easter 4 Way Meet hosted by Tigers of Jersey. All events were staged at either ASA licence Level 2 or 3, the difference being a minimum qualifying standard had to be achieved to swim in the higher Level 2 events. With Jersey swimmers using this as their last chance to qualify for Island Games, competition was tough, but the Barracudas returned with a huge medal haul of 26 gold, 42 silver and 30 bronze medals at level 2 and 40 gold, 33 silver and 27 bronze medals at level 3 Courtney Butcher (15 years) and Tatiana Tostevin (9 years) each shone in their respective age groups winning best girl awards overall. |
