Specsavers Series 12 - 50m Fly & 50m Back

One of the oldest records of the Beau Sejour Barracudas’ Specsavers Series was broken this week by 11 year old Louis Tostevin.  Competing in the 50m butterfly, Louis produced a superb swim touching in 36.70 to take the record previously set by Daniel Brehaut back in 1997.  Louis also placed first in the 50m backstroke event in another lifetime best of 38.97.

The fastest times of the day overall came from James Jurkiewicz in the backstroke in 28.54, just gaining the touch from Oliver Nightingale in 28.89.  Courtney Butcher was the fastest of the girls in 33.14.  Courtney also won the 50m butterfly event in the 14/15 age group.  The fastest butterfly swims overall came Miles and Alicia Munro recording 27.72 and 32.62 respectively.

In the youngest age group - 9 years, Tatiana Tostevin scored maximum points winning both events – the butterfly in 19.90 and the backstroke in a very creditable time of 42.35.  The 9 year old boy’s event, saw Max Lord emerge as the victor in the 25m butterfly in 25.92, just ahead of Elliot Lock who took the 50m backstroke title from Max, in a new personal best time of 49.66.

Very close to Jeremy Osborne’s record of 40.41 in the 10 year age group for 50m backstroke, was Tom Stapley as he won the event in 40.55.  He also won the 50m butterfly in his age group in another excellent personal best of 44.52.

Still looking very strong for the girls was 10 year old Sophie Wilcox who won both events in big personal best times knocking over 4 seconds off her butterfly best to take the touch from Harriet Huxtable in 47.26.

It could not have been closer in the 11 year old girls backstroke, Suzannah Tostevin placing first in 41.23 ahead of Orla Rabey on 41.48 and Ella James on 41.89.  Orla took first place honours in the butterfly in 40.79.   

The 12/13 girls also jostled for position with Victoria Symes winning the butterfly in 35.14. ahead of Georgina Tapp touching 35.65.  Honor Anderson won the backstroke in a stylish performance in 35.09. 

The 12/13 boys also had the closest of finishes in the butterfly with Henry Cliff swimming at the bottom of the age group taking the touch from Harry Bushby in 37.56.  Bushby’s time was 37.75 with third placed Alex Parfit recording 37.98.

The 50m backstroke was won by Thomas Teasdale who was also competing at the bottom of the age group.  He won in a time of 37.98 ahead of TJ Pinchemain and William Russell who had identical times of 38.08.

Lotte Parfit won the 16 and over age group completing the 50m backstroke in 33.90.

The swimmers showing the greatest improvement on their entered times were Louise Madden and Jonathon Beck who improved on the 50m butterfly by over 8 and 9 second respectively.
